Missing in Action? Or Just Missing for a While…
On September 25, 2020 by mysticdd-adminI had great intentions of using all the “extra” time we found ourselves with to make a difference, to share my thoughts regularly, to put myself out there.
What really happened was life.
Life moved forward as it always does, day by day, month by month, and here we are six months later and the world is still relatively in one piece. And my intentions became memories as I filled my days with downtime, with creativity, with writing my novel and learning.
So much learning.
I learned to be patient.
I learned to listen.
And I learned that the world will keep turning, with or without me.
That can be sobering for some; to feel insignificant.
Like their presence does not matter in the big picture.
But that is just the point. We don’t need to matter in the big picture. We already matter in the little one.
The one where you are the only one in the frame.
The one where you have a family sharing your space.
The one where your family is scattered across the city, across the country, or across the globe.
The one where you have created a family for yourself, made up of like-minded individuals and loving creatures that support and cherish you.
Each of us has travelled on a journey no one else has, even if you were not alone.
Our personal energies, psychological nature, and mental health make our journeys unique. That does not mean that no one else can understand what you are going through. It just means their experience was different. It also means that they can empathize, sympathize, and support you in whatever manner you need.
We made it through yesterday.
And the day before.
And we can make it through tomorrow too.
The point is, we are doing okay.
Not great. Not spectacular. Not amazing, although we all have those days too. But in the little picture, we made it.
Do not misunderstand me. Not everyone is still here. Most, if not all of us, lost people we knew or cared about in these last few months. In the big picture, that is not a new experience. It is our circumstances that have made it harder to accept and process. Our ability to support each other in our grief has been disrupted and many of us have felt stuck in the feelings of loss.
If you feel like you can’t get through the grief on your own, or the weight has become too heavy to carry, remember you are not alone on this planet.
Each of us has had to carry different burdens these last few months.
Be brave, just as you have been to this point.
Ask for help.
Offer help.
Be the voice on the phone that really means it when they say, “How can I help you today?”
Humanity needs to show love and support for those who are struggling. Maybe this time of slowing down will help us all to remember to take care of those inside our frame, then look beyond our little picture and be the change that needs to happen so everyone can enjoy the big picture.
